CCSO Traffic Stops Nets Gun, Synthetic Drugs

Sunday, February 4th, 2024, Christian County, KY: Deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding early Sunday morning and seized a firearm and synthetic drugs. A Hopkinsville man was arrested. 

According to a citation by Deputy Collings, he observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 24 around the 85-mile marker eastbound. Deputy’s radar indicated 101 mph in a 70-mph zone. 
Deputy Collings initiated a traffic stop and stopped the vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Dominique Darell Govan, off of JW Dixon Rd. in the Waffle House parking lot. As Collings approached the vehicle, Govan threw a handgun out of the window into the grass. Govan was taken into custody. An investigation on scene determined that Govan was a convicted felon, and the respondent in an active Kentucky Domestic Violence Order. Govan also had another outstanding Emergency Protection Order and an active warrant that needed to be served.  A search of Govan’s vehicle yielded open containers of alcohol and synthetic narcotics. 

Govan was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Speeding
  • Reckless Driving
  • No Insurance
  • No registration Receipt
  • Operating on a Suspended License
  • Disregarding a Traffic Control Device
  • Possession of Open Alcohol Containers
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
