High-Speed Driver Arrested on I-24 After Attempting to Flee Authorities

Hopkinsville, KY-On the evening of June 20th, 2025, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office arrested a driver for reckless driving and a multitude of other charges after the suspect fled from authorities.

Kentucky State Police and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office worked together to stop the vehicle after multiple reports of speeding. The driver, 22-year-old Marsean Wardell of Oak Grove, was clocked traveling 103 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone. When deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver accelerated and attempted to evade law enforcement. After a brief pursuit, deputies successfully stopped the vehicle near Exit 89 on I-24. During the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle. Deputies found marijuana and a loaded 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine containing hollow-point ammunition. Wardell was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Speeding 26 MPH or > speed limit
  • Reckless driving
  • Fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle)
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substances (aggravated circumstances)
  • Possession of marijuana (enhancement)
  • Using restricted ammunition during a felony

Wardell remains in the Christian County Jail.
