Christian County, KY — On the evening of April 19, 2025, deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on E. 21st Street after observing a vehicle operating without functioning tail lamps.

Geovontae Poindexter
The vehicle came to a stop in a residential driveway, where deputies initiated contact with the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Geovontae Poindexter of Hopkinsville.
During the encounter, deputies observed suspicious movements by the driver, including reaching behind the front passenger seat. Due to safety concerns, Mr. Poindexter was ordered to show his hands before being detained without incident.
A search of the vehicle yielded marijuana, an open alcohol container and firearm behind the seat.
Mr. Poindexter, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a firearm. He now faces the following charges:
- No Tail Lamps
- Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Marijuana (Enhanced)
- Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Driving Under the Influence
Poindexter was transported to the Christian County Jail.
