Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Felony Drug Charges

Christian County, KY – On Thursday, May 9, 2024, at approximately 4:07 PM, a Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Cadiz Road near Bypass Road after observing a vehicle traveling 83 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

The driver, identified as 36-year-old David E. Couch of Cadiz, was operating a vehicle and was found to have a suspended driver’s license for DUI—marking his third offense for driving on a DUI-suspended license.

During the investigation, deputies located suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and evidence indicating an attempt to conceal narcotics. Couch admitted to hiding a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in his mouth, which he surrendered to deputies at the scene.

Couch was arrested and charged with the following:

  1. Speeding 26 MPH or greater over the limit
  2. Driving on DUI Suspended License (3rd Offense)
  3. Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 2nd Offense (Methamphetamine)
  4. Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree (Fentanyl)
  5. Tampering with Physical Evidence
  6. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Couch was transported to the Christian County Jail.
