High Five Rural Traffic Safety Project

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office, along with Kentucky State Police Post 2, is joining forces to launch High Five.

This is a traffic safety project funded through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This project will focus on reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities by introducing awareness and education for seat belt usage.

This project will combine community outreach, education, awareness, and enforcement.

This project will allow Local Law Enforcement to educate and introduce safety awareness through driver contact, local community organizations, and partnerships with businesses and schools throughout the community.

During this project, we will be providing educational information focusing on the importance of seat belt usage and safer driving.

The goal for this project is to inform the community on how seat belt usage and safer driving habits can reduce the chances of injuries, fatalities, and overall accidents in Christian County and surrounding communities.

Based on the information obtained from the High Five project, Christian County Ranks 11th out of 120 counties in Kentucky for traffic fatalities.

Therefore, education and awareness are the main goals for this project.

Through Education and enforcement, our goal is to emphasize that the easiest way to prevent traffic fatalities and injuries is simply to buckle up and exercise careful driving habits.

The chances of surviving a traffic crash are 45% higher when properly restrained in a seat belt.

The High Five Project will run from October 1st, 2026, through September 30th, 2027.
